COMIC GRADING AND INFORMATION

Comic Conditions (Grading)

We use the following system for grading the comics.  The grades might be indicated by a symbol and/or letter.

  • * (A, B) = Best

  • # (C) = Next Best

  • % (D) = 3rd Best

  • & (E) = Worst (and usually indicates some brittleness and/or yellowing).

Sometimes more than one grade might be given to a set.  Please contact us for additional details, but this normally indicates that different parts of the set (year) are graded differently.

Dailies

Daily comic sizes - generally listed in terms of the number of newspaper columns the comic spans.  For example, "5c" means the strips run cross 5 newspaper columns and"3c" would indicate a 3c comic which would likely indicate a panel comic.

Comic count - Exact count listed if available.  302, for example, would means we have 302 strips from that year (there are normally 313 weekdays in a year--314 in leap years).  These are listed and sold as a set as indicated by the count.  Counts do not contain duplicate comics, at least intentionally (occasionally find one mixed in).  Some counts might include copies, but these are generally listed separately (i.e, "302 + 5").

Sundays

Color - common color abbreviations used include:

  • FC = Full-color

  • 2C = 2-color

  • B&W = black and white

  • 1C-no black = same as B&W except a color substituted for black

Pages are full-color unless otherwise specified.

"49(20 full, 22 2Th, 7 H)" would mean 49 comics in all, 20 of them full pagers, 22 of the 2/3s of a page, and 7 of them 1/2 of a page. Pages are full-color unless otherwise specified.

Sunday Sizes - common page size abbreviations include:

  • F = Full pages

  • H = Halves

  • Th = Thirds of page

  • O = Quarter page

  • T = Tabloid

  • HT = half tabloid

A Sunday listing might be presented as "49 (20 full, 22 2Th, 7 H)."  This would mean 49 comics in total, 20 of them full page, 22 of the 2/3s of a page, and 7 of them 1/2 of a page. Pages are full-color unless otherwise specified.

We do not break up complete years for certain dates. Also, there are incomplete years and certain dates that are not always listed. If you don't see it here, just ask. "Want List" always welcome! We will be listing here the highest count we have.
